Music at St. Gabriel's

At St. Gabriel's we recognize the need for variety in music. While our early services do not incorporate musical hymns, our regular services enjoy two alternating formats. Our choir sings traditional music twice a month, usually the 2nd and 4th Sunday, and our Praise Band complements our contemporary service held once a month.

The choir meets for practice Thursday evenings at 7:30 and is lead by Dr. Dwight (Doc) Uphaus. Our organist and choir practice accompanist is Roberta Bond. Most of our members are amateurs singing for the joy of praising the Lord. The group varies between 9 and 15 members and invites anyone who wishes to join in this ministry of worship to do so. Doc says, "If you can giggle I can teach you to sing."

Our back-up organists are Paulette Hanchett and Rob Meadows. Rob also plays piano for the Praise Band, an assembly of amateur musicians who enjoy playing whichever instrument they have used to develop their talents. We have a pair of acoustic guitarists, a bass guitarist and a duet of lady vocalists. We had a drummer as well, and would love to have a fill-in while he is away at college. The Praise Band is part of our Contemporary Service on the first Sunday of every month.
